Why we built it

Off-road crews are scattered across group chats and feeds
Offroad Sync brings them onto one map

Offroad Sync trip details for an Oregon Dunes run
Plan the run

Scout community trails, see active wildfires, build your rig and lock in your crew before you roll out.

Offroad Sync turn-by-turn guidance along a trail line
On the trail

Follow the trail line turn by turn, record what you drive, and leave check-ins and reports for the crews coming up behind you.

Offroad Sync recovery request for a mechanical breakdown
Recovery

Stuck, buried or broken down? A request carries your spot, your rig, the daylight left and the weather, and nearby rigs with the right gear answer the call.

Process

From concept to the App Store

We ran Offroad Sync like a client project: a written concept and MVP scope first, then the design system, then development in short iterations, with every build tested on real devices through TestFlight before it reached the store.

Concept

Product concept and MVP scope: who the app is for, what the first version has to do, and what can wait.

Design system

Foundations, components and every screen designed in Figma, with colour, type and spacing bound to tokens.

May 2026
Build

A React Native app on Firebase with a custom dark Mapbox map style, tested build by build on TestFlight.

Jul 31, 2026
Launch

Live on the App Store. Android follows on Google Play.

Aug to Sep 2026
After launch

Apple CarPlay ships, followed by iPad layouts and trails you can record, import as GPX or publish as a guide.

Design decisions

Six rules behind every screen

Map first

Trips, events, recoveries, trail reports and active wildfires sit on one live map, filtered to what your rig can handle.

Radio, not chat

No in-app chat, by design. Crews talk on GMRS, HAM or CB, and the host sends one-way updates to everyone on the run.

Matched to the rig

Every run has a capability tier, from stock to hardcore. Every rig builds a reputation with its photos, mods and recovery gear.

Built for no signal

Recording keeps building the line with no bars on the mountain. Publish it, keep it, or export the GPX when you are back.

In the dash

The same map on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: the trail line ahead, the next turn called out loud, and one press to start recording.

Free where it matters

Planning runs, recovery, rigs, the map and every trail in it are free. Pro adds extras for the people who live in the app.

Design system

One system, bound to tokens

Agata and Piotr designed the system and every screen in Figma. Colour, type, spacing and components are tokens that flow into the React Native codebase, so what ships matches what was designed.
